CyCon 2014 (3-6 June) brings more than 450 cyber experts to Tallinn to discuss the topic of ‘Active Cyber Defence’. The conference opening keynote will be delivered by H. E. Toomas Hendrik Ilves, President of the Republic of Estonia who will be followed by Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach, UK Vice-Chief of the Defence Staff and Dr Jamie Shea, NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges.
Organised by the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence for the sixth year in a row, CyCon tries to be a platform where people from different areas of cyber can meet and discuss. CyCon 2014 focuses on ‘Active Cyber Defence’ and the talks will vary from the technical talks to legal, strategic and policy talks with many panel discussions and Q&A sessions in between.
Among other speakers are Dmitri Alperovitch (CrowdStrike), Prof. Dr Gabi Dreo (CODE), Prof. Dr Terry D. Gill (University of Amsterdam & Netherlands Defence Academy), Irving Lachow (MITRE Corporation), Dr Jarno Limnell (Intel Security), Latif Ladid (IPv6 Forum), Prof. Dr Peter Martini (Fraunhofer FKIE), Prof. Michael N. Schmitt (US Naval War College & Exeter University) and many more.
The conference pre-programme or Workshop Day is taking place today and consists of three different workshops. Responsive Cyber Defence Workshop discusses responsive means and methods to defend against imminent or on-going cyber threats against an organisation, which are not of pure defensive character or which show their effect beyond the organisations’ boundaries. Cyber Norms Development Workshop is dedicated to the growing debate on the relevance and role of norms in cyber security. Cyber Ranges and Exercise Design presents Cyber Ranges – how are they used today and what can be expected and developed in the future. Findings and conclusions of these workshops will be used in Centre’s research on these topics.
CyCon 2014 is supported by Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE, technical sponsor), Microsoft (diamond sponsor), Intel Security, Cisco & Lancope, Verint (gold sponsors), IBM and Ixia (sponsors).
