Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian and Finnish heads of Defence discussed cyber warfare at the Centre. General Riho Terras, Estonian Chief of Defence, encouraged his colleagues to take advantage of the Centre’s potential in answering pressing questions in cyber defence.
Colonel Artur Suzik, director of the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence, gave an overview of the Centre’s research projects as well as the Estonian Cyber Range. The applicability of international law to cyber incidents was discussed and guests emphasized the critical need to integrate internationally agreed norms into national legislation.
Estonia is the host nation for the Tallinn-based NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence, a knowledge hub focused on trainings, exercises, applied research and lessons learned in cyber security. Latvia and Lithuania are among the 14 sponsoring nations at the Centre while Finland has joined as a non-NATO contributing participant.
The Chiefs of Defence came to Estonia to discuss security in the region and potential for further cooperation. In addition to the Centre, they also were briefed on the Estonian Defence Forces and visited several defence structures outside of the capital Tallinn.
