Latvian Minister of Defence Briefed on Cyber Security

The NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence provides valuable training opportunities, Raimonds Bergmanis, the newly appointed Minister of Defence of the Republic of Latvia said visiting the Tallinn-based NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence today.

“Latvia highly appreciates the expertise and knowledge as well as the training and exercise opportunities provided by the Centre,” minister Bergmanis noted. He was particularly interested in the future plans and developments of the international technical cyber defence exercise Locked Shields, the largest of its kind globally.

“Latvia has done very well in our annual technical cyber defence exercise,” noted Colonel Artur Suzik, Director of the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence. “Latvian input to our work is first-class and cooperation with Latvian experts has been an excellent example of regional experience sharing.”

Latvia was among the founding nations of the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence in 2008. The Tallinn-based centre is a NATO-accredited knowledge hub focused on interdisciplinary applied research and development as well as consultations, trainings and exercises in the field of cyber security. The Centre’s mission is to enhance capability, cooperation and information-sharing between NATO, Allies and Partners in cyber defence. The Centre is staffed and financed by sponsoring nations and contributing participants.
