Professor Michael N. Schmitt,Senior Fellow at the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence and Director of the Tallinn Manual 2.0, is decorated by the President of Estonia with the Cross of Terra Mariana, IV class.
Prof. Schmitt is a renowned international law scholar who, after a successful 20-year career in the United States Air Force, served as the Dean of the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies and Chair of Public International Law at Durham University. He is currently the Director of the Stockton Center for the Study of International Law at the United States Naval War College and Professor of Public International Law at the University of Exeter. Prof. Schmitt was among the first to publish works on the interplay of cyber operations and international law already in the late 1990s. He is a widely referenced expert and the author of several important approaches to the interpretation of international law in the cyber context.
Prof. Schmitt is the Director of the Tallinn Manual 2.0, having been in charge of the original 2013. He is a regular invited speaker at CyCon and teaches at the Centre’s International Law of Cyber Operations course.
